- INITIAL FITTING TIPS - These skates have a semi-rigid upper boot to provide safety and performance. Before you first try on the skates, heat the upper boot with a hair dryer to soften the material. The heated upper boot will be more flexible, allowing for tighter lacing. It will also make the boot easier to break in. The plastic guards included on the blades are meant for protection during shipping and are not designed for continual use as blade covers.
